Ludhiana is the most famous industrial district of Punjab, the focal point and most populous district of Punjab. District Ludhiana is located in the Malwa region of Punjab. The city of Ludhiana is situated on the banks of the river Sutlej. Villages near the river are at risk of floods during the monsoon season. In earlier times the city of Ludhiana was known by its old name Lodhiana. The word Lodhiana means the town of Lodhians. The city was discovered by the emperor of the Lodhi dynasty and the city was named Lodhiana after that emperor. As time went by, the name of the city was changed from Lodhiana to Ludhiana. Ludhiana is an industrial city in Punjab. Ludhiana is very famous all over the world as a textile industry hub. Hosiery products made in Ludhiana city are in great demand in the world. Industries of Ludhiana are exporting a wide range of products on a large scale which is creating employment opportunities in the district. The largest export of woolen cloth, machine, machine parts, dyes, bicycle parts, sewing machines, etc. made in Ludhiana is on a large scale.
The city has
the largest grain market and is world famous for the Rural
Olympics. The only agricultural university in the state of Punjab is
located on the outskirts of Ludhiana. The huge demand is met by the Ludhiana
city industry by manufacturing the parts of world-famous car brands. Ludhiana
city also has a stock exchange which is located in the busy Feroze Gandhi
Market of the city.
The
city of Ludhiana was discovered during the 15th centenary by
the Lodhi dynasty. At that time, Delhi was ruled by the Lodhi dynasty. To quell
the unrest in this city area, Sikandar Lodhi, the ruler of Delhi, appointed two
of his chiefs and sent them from Delhi to the Ludhiana city area to establish
peace in this city. Sikandar Lodhi was the second ruler of the Delhi Sultanate
whose decision established a world-famous city like Ludhiana. The two chiefs
wipe out the troubled area and camp. The two cross the Sutlej and
enter the looting area and rehabilitate the area. One of the chiefs crosses the
Sutlej and relocates to the campsite and the area comes to be known by the new
name Lodhi-Anana. Gradually time passed and the current name of the area
Ludhiana became famous.

Punjab, Ludhiana is called the financial capital of Punjab.
The National Highway connecting Amritsar with Delhi passes through the center
of Ludhiana city. To the north lies the Sutlej River which separates Ludhiana
from the Doaba region. To the east is district Ropar and the capital
Chandigarh, in the west district Moga and in the south district, Sangrur is
located.
