District- SANGRUR, Its PB-13
Sangrur is a famous district of Punjab. It
is believed that this district was established centuries ago. It is believed
that a rich Jatt named Sanghu founded this district. Before
independence, Sangrur was not a district in itself. Until the independence of
India, Sangrur was part of the Jind state. The birth of Shaheed-e-Azam Udham
Singh and the famous revolutionary Gadar movement made Sangrur famous all over
the world. Excavations in Malerkotla tehsil of Sangrur have claimed that the
area of Sangrur may be even older than the Harappan civilization. The
settlements in the Sangrur area may have come from the Sindh and Balochistan
areas of Pakistan around 2300 BC, thanks to which the art of
pottery was developed in the area and their attraction towards
the fertile soil of the area led to great progress in agriculture.
Sangrur used to be a part of Patiala State but after that Sangrur has also been a part of Pepsu State due to which Sangrur district has developed a lot. Sangrur is famous for its agriculture, education, handicrafts, and textiles. Sangrur is the birthplace of the famous and brilliant personalities of Punjab. With their hard work and struggle, they have made Sangrur famous all over the world including the famous poet Mr. Pritam Singh Rahi and the revolutionary Shaheed-e-Azam Udham Singh who avenged the bloody destruction of Punjab at Caxton Hall in London.
Punjab is divided into four main divisions. These include the Patiala Division. Four districts have been included in the Patiala division out of which Sangrur has also been included. District Sangrur is bounded by different districts in all four directions. It is bounded on the north by District Ludhiana, on the east by District Patiala, on the west by District Barnala which is formed from the area of District Sangrur, and on the south Sangrur is bounded by District Fatehabad of Haryana State. Barnala district of Punjab used to be a part of Sangrur which was later registered as a separate district by the Punjab government. District Sangrur has been connected with District Ludhiana and District Jakhal of Haryana for Rail Transport so that trade could run smoothly in the district. There are railway stations in all the towns of Sangrur district.
There is a special picnic spot in the Sangrur district that remains
the center of attraction for the people - Banasar Garden. This garden is very
old and ancient. It has a small zoo inside. This place can be reached by bus
and train. Apart from this, the religious place Gurdwara Nankiana Sahib is
located in the district. The place where the Gurdwara Sahib was built enjoys
the footsteps of the first, sixth, and ninth Guru Sahibs of the Sikhs. Includes
roof fair. The fairs held in Sangrur are also very popular including the Chapar
fair.
District Sangrur is also closely associated with the music world of Punjab. Many famous songs of Punjab mention Sangrur. There are many such songs that only mention Sangrur. Punjab's music industry has made Sangrur globally recognized. Due to this, many idioms and sayings become popular in general, the most popular of which are:
"Sada Ni Kasoor, Sada Zila Sangrur"
